Buddha Jayanti - Purnima Festival
The Buddha Jayanti or the Buddha Purnima in India celebrates the birth, enlightenment and ultimate passing away of the Buddha. The festival is celebrated throughout the world, though, by different names.

Losar Festival
One of the most important festivals of the Tibetan Buddhists, Losar celebrates the Tibetan New Year. The term Losar derives from two words of Tibetan language, Lo which means new and sar which means year.

Hemis Fair & Festival
The Hemis Festival is one of the most important festivals for the Buddhist of India. It is celebrated to honour the birth of Guru Padmasambhava or Guru Rimpoche, who is regarded as the reincarnate of Lord Buddha.

Ullambana Festival
Ullambana is a festival primarily celebrated by the Buddhist following the Mahayana tradition. However, a number of Therevada Buddhists (Laos, Cambodia and Thailand), too, celebrate this festival which lasts for around half a month - from first to fifteenth of the eighth month of the lunar calendar.

Sangha Day - Magha Puja Festival
Post the first Rains Retreat (Vassa) at the Deer Park in Sarnath, the Buddha reached the Rajagaha city. Here, without seeking His permission, 1250 Arahats along with two of the His main disciples, Ven. Sariputta and Ven. Moggalana, assembled to pay their respect to Him at the Veruvana Monastery.

Asalha Day Festival
One of the most important festivals of the Thervada Buddhists, the Asalha Puja Day or the Dhamma Day celebrates the first teaching of the Buddha.

Pavarana Day Festival
The Rains Retreat which begins on the full moon day of Asalha (often in July) comes to an end on the Pavarana Day (often in October). The term pavarana literally translates into 'inviting admonition or inviting others to advise one'.
